We all face trials and joys during our lives; hopefully more of the latter! Indeed, like many, I have experienced both, but it is the former that really shapes our character, enabling us to meet challenges and achieve our objectives. Hence, much of my work centres on serving communities and is certainly representative of my past, coming from a village in Trinidad where families and neighbours supported each other.
The above has driven me to become active in many areas, notably being appointed to the Magistracy in 1989 and chairing various committees where I continue to crusade for community contribution, open diversity and a clear reflection of society with regard to the makeup of key decision making institutions.
So, I encourage you to join me in a clarion call for awareness and requisite change; notably in areas that can sometimes sit ‘beneath the radar’ and lack the necessary attention. Throughout my site you will see much of my work over many years with Metropolitan Police Service, the issue of domestic abuse and the challenges of diverse representation.
From a different, more personal perspective, you can also read about my fundraising work with Breast Cancer Care UK; raising awareness of this and other charities serving this important area.
I have also included my interest in fine Trinidadian cookery, sharing some home recipes that I urge you to try.
So thanks for visiting; I trust you now now a little more about Sylvia Maharaj, with the site serving as an inspiration for positive change ……and please do provide some feedback.
